Application
Low carbon steel, with its remarkable malleability and softness, is highly amenable to various fabrication techniques including forging, welding, and cutting. This adaptability allows it to be crafted into chains, rivets, bolts, shafts, and more. With a carbon content below 0.25%, it's often referred to as soft steel, encompassing both ordinary and high-quality carbon structural steels. Typically fashioned into angle iron, channel steel, I-beams, steel pipes, steel belts, and plates, it's utilized extensively in constructing building components, containers, furnaces, and agricultural machinery. High-quality versions are rolled into sheets for applications like car cabs and engine hoods, or made into bars for machinery parts demanding lower strength. Despite its broad usage, the low strength of mild steel poses some limitations.
The structural integrity of steel can be significantly enhanced by augmenting manganese content and incorporating trace alloying elements such as vanadium, titanium, and niobium. In producing a mild steel bar, manufacturers expertly mold the bar into a rounded steel pipe via high-frequency current welding. Post-formation, the pipe undergoes a series of precision processes including deviation correction and length customization. Subsequent to cutting, the pipe is meticulously deburred and pressure tested. To ensure durability, it is either hot dip galvanized or surface painted. The pipe ends may be beveled and threaded with flanges, catering to specific industrial applications. Particularly in the automotive sector, these mild steel pipes are integral to lightweight vehicle production, and they also serve as essential components in general framing or housing.
