Application
Low carbon steel, with its exceptional adaptability to processing methods like forging, welding, and cutting, is a cornerstone in the manufacture of chains, rivets, bolts, shafts, and more. Characterized by a carbon content of less than 0.25%, this soft steel-also known as mild steel-comprises both ordinary and high-quality carbon structural steel. It's typically rolled into angle steel, channel steel, I-beams, steel pipes, belts, and plates for constructing various building components, containers, and agricultural machinery. When crafted into high-quality sheets, it serves the automotive industry, producing car cabs and engine hoods, or becomes bars for low-strength mechanical parts. However, its use is limited by its inherent low strength.
The resilience of steel is significantly enhanced by increasing manganese content and adding trace alloying elements like vanadium, titanium, and niobium. In creating round steel pipes, manufacturers use mild steel bars, which are inserted, welded with high-frequency currents, and then shaped, corrected, and cut to precision. Post-formation, these pipes undergo deburring and rigorous pressure testing before receiving a protective layer through hot dip galvanizing or surface painting. The pipe ends may be expertly beveled and threaded with flanges. In the automotive industry, mild steel pipes are ideal for producing lightweight vehicles and are also preferred for general framing and housing solutions.
